MIG/MAG electric welding (METAL INERT GAS/METAL ACTIVE GAS)
The shielding gas plays a protective role for the liquid pool in order to ensure the appropriate crystallization process of the metal and, consequently, to form the correct weld. The quality of the weld is a key factor that determines the strength and durability of the joint. The most commonly used inert gases are argon (Ar) or helium (He). The active gas can be carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen (H2), oxygen (O2), nitrogen (N2), nitrous oxide (NO) or a mixture of carbon dioxide and argon (CO2 + Ar). The type of protective gas used affects the physical properties of the arc, the transport of drops into the weld pool, spatter, the mechanism of weld formation and the properties of the joint. A consumable electrode made of solid steel wire covered with a layer of copper (the most universal type) is fed continuously at a speed of 2.5 to 50 m/min. As you can see, electric welding allows you to efficiently create strong and durable connections.
The MIG/MAG (GMAW) electric welding method is used to connect:
- carbon steel,
- low alloy steel,
- corrosion-resistant steel,
- nickel alloys,
- aluminum alloys,
- magnesium alloys,
- titanium alloys.
MIG/MAG electric welding parameters:
- type and current intensity: 40÷625 A,
- electrode wire feeding speed: 2.5÷50 m/min,
- arc voltage: 22÷46 V,
- welding speed: 0.2÷0.5 m/min (for RAPID ARC up to 2 m/min),
- type and intensity of protective gas: 12÷30 l/min,
- electrode wire diameter: 0.5÷4.0 mm.
Welding Łódź - Cored wire welding
In the gas shielded arc welding process, there is a method in which the consumable electrode is in the form of a steel wire with a powder core. This method is called cored wire welding. In this method, only active chemical gases are used as protective gas, i.e. pure carbon dioxide (CO2) or mixtures of carbon dioxide with argon (CO2 + Ar) and argon with oxygen (Ar + O2). Gas-shielded flux-cored wire welding combines the features of three electric welding processes:
- arc welding with coated electrodes, because the powder core of the electrode wire performs similar tasks to the electrode coating,
- GMA welding, because we achieve high welding efficiency by continuously feeding the electrode wire and protecting the liquid pool with an active shielding gas,
- submerged arc welding because the powder core creates a slag layer that protects the liquid metal from atmospheric gases and also shapes and supports the weld bead.
It is recommended for welding and surfacing of elements exposed to high impact and abrasion. The resulting weld is resistant to distortion, has high hardness (57-62 HRC), and does not have cracks and pores typical of other welding methods (Łódź). This method is used for welding structures and elements with increased strength, including: ships, parts of loaders and excavators, buckets, ditching buckets, hammers, crushing jaws and other structures exposed to abrasion. This allows for further effective work by restoring these devices to their former glory and full functionality.
TIG electric welding (TUNGSTEN INERT GAS)
TIG-141 or GTAW electric welding is a method of arc welding with a non-consumable electrode in TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) gas shields, which involves obtaining a welded joint by local melting of the joined elements and additional material with the heat of an electric arc. glowing between the non-consumable electrode and the welded object. The electrode is usually made of pure tungsten or tungsten with admixtures of elements such as cerium, thorium, lanthanum. A protective gas in the form of argon (Ar), helium (He) or an appropriate mixture (Ar+He) is fed through the burner nozzle around the non-consumable electrode. The purpose of the protective gas is to cool the electrode and protect the liquid weld pool and the heated material against contamination from the atmosphere.
TIG (GTAW) welding parameters:
type and current intensity: 2÷600 A
arc voltage: 2÷30 V
welding speed: 1÷15 mm/s
type and flow rate of protective gas: 5÷20 l/min
type of material and diameter of the low-melting electrode: 0.5÷8 mm
diameter of additional material: 2÷10 mm
The TIG (GTAW) method is used to connect:
high-alloy steels
stainless steels
nickel alloys
aluminum alloys
magnesium alloys
titanium alloys
alloys of other reactive and heat-resistant metals
other metal alloys in a wide range of joint thicknesses
Based on the methods presented above, we offer welding services (Łódź) of steel structures. This is a popular way of connecting metal elements, constituting an excellent and effective alternative to mechanical connections such as screws, rivets and bolts. Welding steel structures has many benefits. Connections of this type are made relatively quickly and easily, while maintaining a high level of strength and reliability. What is particularly worth emphasizing is that connectors made by welding (Łódź) are also characterized by much less weight compared to screws and rivets, which in the case of some types of structures may be a factor determining the choice of the technique we offer. Welding joints also consist of fewer elements, as they do not have additional overlays and gusset plates. One of the most important advantages of welded steel structures is the resistance of joints to corrosion, as well as the ease with which they can be protected against oxidation. It is worth adding that the welding service we offer is not limited only to welding steel structures. All elements made by us undergo additional final processing, which involves thorough grinding of uneven ends and sharp edges.
We weld various types of structures. These are building structures, including barriers, podiums, platforms, scaffoldings, skeletons, columns and beams, but also machines and their elements. We carry out activities based on detailed documentation that you provide us. However, it is worth emphasizing that we also offer comprehensive engineering consulting and design, thanks to which issues related to planning and professional calculations can be leave you on our hands.
In the Łódź Voivodeship, welding of steel structures is widely used in numerous industries, including railway transport, the mining industry and the energy industry. We operate in a wider area, but we most often provide welding services in Łódź.
